Getting the Message: A Historical Celebration of Communication in Carroll County, MD
7th Annual Legacy Gala | Saturday June 26, 2021
We invite you to participate in Getting the Message, the Historical Society of Carroll County’s 2021 Virtual Gala on Saturday, June 26, from 7:00 – 8:00 pm. This year’s theme is “A Historical Celebration of Communication in Carroll County.”
From the 1813 Engine of Liberty and Uniontown Advertiser newspapers and the nation’s first Rural Free Delivery, to radio that helped break the County’s relative isolation by bringing live news, entertainment and sports into every home, to Quantum’s and Ting’s high speed internet connectivity that makes telework and telehealth possible, communication has played an essential role in weaving together our economic, cultural, civic, and social fabric.
Through interviews and mini-documentaries, the Virtual Gala will salute the movers and shakers instrumental in providing our local media. In addition, there will be music and dance presentations to enjoy, as well as opportunities to bid on trips and other items in our online silent auction.
Become a sponsor at levels ranging from $250 to $5,000. As the Society’s primary fundraiser, the Gala’s success impacts us in many ways, including providing funds for preserving our historic buildings, exhibiting artifacts and documents, helping residents research family history and historic houses, and producing programs, such as the monthly Box Lunch Talks that connect people to the County’s rich heritage.
