Methodism in Carroll County. Speaker – Larry Bohn. Many recognize Carroll County as the Cradle of Methodism in the United States. In 1760, Methodist preacher Robert Strawbridge immigrated to America and settled on a small farm near Sam’s Creek where he established a house church that met in his living room. Soon, Robert and his followers built a log meeting house, the first dedicated Methodist structure in America. Sixty-year Methodist Larry Bohn will trace Methodism’s roots in Carroll County.
