Board of Trustees Member, Frank Batavick, gives a brief history of a local icon, Mary Shellman. Shellman is an important figure in Carroll County history. She was the first manager of the Westminster Division of the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company, organizer of the first Memorial Day in Westminster, and was instrumental in the women’s suffrage movement. Due to her accomplishments she is also one of the figures we chose to feature in our Legacy Gala’s theme of ‘Breaking Barriers.’
