Digital Library And Collections Hub
We are thrilled that you are interested in HSCC’s vast collections!
The Society cares for extensive collections including thousands of artifacts, ranging from everyday household items and clothing to rare manuscripts and photographs. These items provide a tangible connection to the past, allowing visitors and researchers to explore the cultural, social, and economic development of Carroll County over the centuries.
We are particularly strong in its documentation of local industries, agricultural practices, and community life, offering a comprehensive overview of the county’s evolution. In addition to physical artifacts, the collection also encompasses a vast array of archival materials such as maps, letters, diaries, and official records. These documents are invaluable for genealogists, historians, and anyone interested in tracing the lineage and stories of Carroll County’s residents. By maintaining and showcasing these historical treasures, HSCC plays a crucial role in fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the county’s past.
Helpful Tips for Searching the Collections
In October 2025, HSCC began maintaining two databases to organize and make more accessible its vast collections. The first is called CatalogIt where the Society organizes its objects, photos, and single-item archival collections like a historic ledger for example. The second database is what we call our Digital Library. The Digital Library organizes our periodical collections like newspapers, journals, and digital exhibits. Both databases have search capability, though the Digital Library has a more powerful search function for keyword searching within every document posted. Again, researchers looking for the Society’s digitized newspapers, Society finding aids, and publications like the Carroll Yesteryears and the Carroll History Journal will now find these items on the Society’s Digital Library. Researchers interested in artifacts, photographs, and single-item archival documents and books should utilize CatalogIt.
