
Carroll 250 Event: Fall History Expo 2025
The Fall History Expo provides an opportunity for attendees to get to know the people in our community who are preserving and telling the stories of Carroll County’s past. The morning event will incorporate Carroll 250 programming and provides a great opportunity for students who are beginning work on their 2026 National History Day projects!

This year we have two great speakers.
Diane Boettcher will speak about “From Memories to History: Documenting Family Legacies” at 9:30 am. Diane is a retired US Navy Captain, who has pursued her own family tree for the last three decades. Diane is a caretaker of Ellsworth Cemetery, a historical African American cemetery and supports other cemeteries in the area with research. She is the immediate past President of the Carroll County Genealogical Society. She works for Microsoft as a Chief of Staff.
Emily Huebner will speak about “On the Hunt for History: Geocaching in Carroll County” at 10:30 am. Emily is the Director of Operations and Programs for the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area, the certified Heritage Area for Carroll, Frederick, and Washington Counties. Previously, she worked at the Maryland State Archives as a researcher for both the Study of the Legacy of Slavery in Maryland and the Maryland 400 Project.
At 11:30 am we will have the presentation of Celebrating America Summer Adventure awards by the Carroll County Commissioners.
