Historical Happenings: Historical Society of Mt. Airy’s History 101 Series (1)
The Historical Society of Mt. Airy’s speaker will be Matthew Borders, Park Ranger from Monocacy Battlefield. At the Battle of Monocacy, fought on July 9, 1864, Union troops launched a desperate attempt to delay a Confederate advance on Washington, D.C. Throughout the battle, the federal commanders, Major General Lew Wallace and Brigadier General James Ricketts, waited for additional reinforcements that never came. Where was the rest of Ricketts command? Park Ranger Matt Borders will unravel the fascinating story of what happened to them and where they were found.
