Join us on Sunday, July 16, 12:00-4:00 p.m., for an afternoon of history fun at the Society. The infamous King George returns for the popular history villain dunk tank. Burgers, fries, and $1 ice cream will be available along with great historic games and entertainment. HSCC’s new exhibit, “Strike Up The Bands,” will debut in Cockey’s.

August 12th Library Closing

HSCC will be hosting a volunteer thank you luncheon on August 12th. Library volunteers will be attending the event. Therefore, the Society Library will be closed August 12th. We apologize for any inconvenience. HSCC will still be open 10am-4pm for tours and Bookshop access from 10am-4pm August 12th. Thank you!

Box Lunch Talk: The Tale of Three Schoolhouses

When Patricia Greenwald was the director of Gifted and Talented Education for Howard County Public Schools, a student project piqued her interest in restoring and sharing the stories of historic schoolhouses in Carroll and Howard Counties. She will tell the stories of three schools: Ellicott Quaker School (late 1700s), Pfeiffer’s Corner Schoolhouse (1883), and the Sykesville Colored Schoolhouse (1904).

Labor Day Weekend Closing

The Historical Society Campus will be closed Labor Day weekend through Monday September 4th. We hope everyone has a fun, relaxing, end of summer Labor Day holiday.

Years of research and interactions with Lightner descendants have uncovered the twists and turns in the Lightner’s life.
