Annual Events:

Carroll County Birthday

Each year, HSCC hosts an event to celebrate the anniversary of Carroll County’s founding on January 17, 1837.  The commemoration of Carroll County’s “birthday” began in the 1920s with a group called the Carroll County Society of Baltimore County. These descendants of Carroll Countians organized to promote “an appreciation of the history, traditions and pleasant memories of Carroll County.” They held a meeting each year on January 19. They also sponsored lectures and published pamphlets on Carroll County history.  Eventually, HSCC took over the birthday event, sometime during the 1950s. We’ve been hosting it ever since and are proud to keep it going, even in these unusual times.

We expect to celebrate again in 2022 in January.  Watch our calendar for more details as to the speaker and location.

Winter Wine Tasting

Each year in February the Historical Society hosts a wine tasting event.  In 2021 the event was hosted virtually in February and in March.  This event features light refreshments and an evening of learning and tasting wine, led by a local wine connoisseur.  Make sure to keep checking the Historical Society calendar of events!

The Celebrating America History Expo supports Carroll County Public School’s History Day competition for middle and high school students. Carroll County History Day is the first round of competition leading to Maryland History Day and National History Day. Celebrating America fosters a greater sense and understanding of Carroll County’s role within the great context of America’s history. Check our calendar for more details and specific event dates!
