Gift for the Cause: Collections Management and Conservation

This year’s Gift for the Cause is dedicated to collection management and preservation. Financial assistance is urgently needed to help preserve a number of our key holdings—a gray, white, and black striped taffeta dress worn by Caroline Hanes Shriver, c. 1845; a portrait of William Winchester, Jr., son of Westminster’s founder; and a portrait of Colonel John K. Longwell (1810-1896), who published The Carrolltonian, a newspaper dedicated to establishing Carroll County.

To help maintain our valuable collection, the HSCC is in desperate need for a more robust management system. We’re hoping to replace our antiquated system with “Re:discovery Proficio Elements,” a far more flexible means of updating, searching, reporting on, and researching HSCC archival and artifact collections.
