Historical Society of Carroll County’s Museum

PERMANENT COLLECTION: The collection of objects acquired and accessioned for their historical and educational significance in interpreting the history of Carroll County as expressed in HSCC’s Mission Statement. These objects are to be preserved in perpetuity and receive the highest level of care HSCC can provide, in keeping with accepted museum standards. The management and care of the Permanent Collection is the responsibility of HSCC’s curatorial staff.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF CARROLL COUNTY ARCHIVES: The collection of records and publications generated by HSCC in the course of its normal daily operations. These items are to receive care that will ensure their long-term survival but are available for use as needed by HSCC in its operations. Management and care of the HSCC Archives is the responsibility of HSCC’s curatorial staff.

ARCHITECTURAL/ARCHAEOLOGICAL COLLECTION: The collection of architectural fragments and archaeological materials recovered/removed by HSCC during work on any of its historic structures or sites. Management and care of the Architectural/Archaeological Collection is the responsibility of HSCC’s curatorial staff.

STUDY COLLECTION: The collection of original or reproduction objects that may be used for educational programming or scholarly research. These items are to receive care that will ensure their long-term survival but are available for study, use in public programs by the curatorial staff, or public display by the Collections Committee, staff, and Curatorial staff. Management and care of the Study Collection is the responsibility of HSCC’s curatorial staff. [see Part II, Section E of this document] However, objects placed in temporary, non-thematic displays become the responsibility of the Collections Committee, staff, Board of Trustees, or its designated volunteers.

LIBRARY/REFERENCE COLLECTION: The collection of materials acquired by HSCC for use as reference materials by the public in its research library. While every effort is made to maintain these items, it is understood that these items will receive daily use and may be damaged or destroyed. Management and care of the Library/Reference Collection is the responsibility of HSCC’s library staff.

EDUCATION COLLECTION: The collection of objects acquired by HSCC for use in its educational programs. While every effort is made to maintain these items, it is understood that these items will receive daily use and may be damaged or destroyed. Management and care of the Education Collection is the responsibility of HSCC’s education staff.
